If you haven’t heard by now, Facebook just made its biggest move ever, buying the messaging service WhatsApp in a deal worth some $19 billion. That’s 19 times what Facebook paid for Instagram two years ago. The WhatsApp Service run by the team of just 32 engineers, handles more than 50 Billion messages daily, and approx 385 million active users. WhatsApp acquisition has also brought out fresh criticism over security for the billions of messages delivered on the platform. Security Researcher at Praetorian Labs identified several SSL-related security issues in WhatsApp application using Project Neptune, a mobile application security testing platform. "WhatsApp communication between your phone and our server is fully encrypted. We do not store your chat history on our servers. Once delivered successfully to your phone, chat messages are removed from our system." Company said in a blog post.

SkyDrive is dead, long live OneDrive. In January, Microsoft announced that it would rebrand its storage service to OneDrive following a trademark dispute with British pay-TV provider BSkyB. Starting today, the website, the mobile apps and the desktop apps all share the same OneDrive name. That’s not all. Microsoft is also launching today a new referral program. It is very reminiscent of Dropbox’s referral system. If a friend signs up using your link, you get 500MB of free storage, up to a maximum of 10 friends or 5GB. Similarly, if you enable automatic photo upload on your Windows, iOS or Android phone, you can get up to 3GB of free storage.

Blackberry To Lunch BBM on Andriod and IOS This Summer

Its good to here from the CEO of Blackberry, Thorsten Heins, he announced that BBM will soon be available on Android and iOS. The messaging app will launch globally this summer. This is a huge move for BlackBerry as it brings BB10′s strongest feature to literally hundreds of millions of potential users. “It is a state of confidence,” Heins explained. “The BB10 platform is so strong and the response has been so good that the time is right for BBM to become an independent mobile messaging platform.” The app will be free on both Android and iOS. Much like other messaging apps, it will be a standalone application. iOS 6 or Ice Cream Sandwich will be required.
